Digital‍ ‍psychotherapy in Swedish in Finland

Do you live far from the nearest Swedish-speaking psychotherapist, or would you prefer, for convenience, to receive your psychotherapy online?

I offer counseling, psychotherapy, rehabilitative psychotherapy—KELA/FPA therapy—as well as psychotherapy as part of the FPA’s intensive medical rehabilitation program (effective January 2027) through my online practice for all of Swedish-speaking Finland.

I am a trained psychotherapist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and these therapeutic approaches are always integrated into my work, whether you, as a client, need some supportive counseling during a life crisis or are seeking long-term psychotherapy. I am here to support you and help you navigate your challenges, regardless of where you live.

Digital Talk Therapy — Online CBT for All of Finland

CBT-Based Talk Therapy for Swedish Speakers from All Over Finland

I offer psychotherapy to clients from all over Swedish-speaking Finland. My in-person practice is located in Mariehamn on Åland, but I work remotely with clients from Nykarleby and Malax in the north to Turku and Lovisa in the south. I work in Swedish and English.

As psychotherapists specializing in CBT, we use research-based methods. Together with the client, we examine the thoughts, interpretations, and behaviors that need to change so that the client can live as fulfilling a life as possible.

Can CBT be conducted online?

In CBT, clients do a lot of work on their own to apply the methods and exercises we’ve discussed during our sessions. This means that CBT-based psychotherapy works very well online, with the same results.

Is online CBT just as effective as in-person sessions?

Yes, online CBT is just as effective as in-person therapy. The therapy requires just as much effort from you as a client, and the homework assignments you receive are the same whether you attend an in-person session or meet online.

Do you want to avoid healthcare waitlists?

With us, you won't have to wait for an appointment!

How does online psychotherapy work?

Digital psychotherapy means that you meet with your therapist via video link over the internet, with the same quality as in-person sessions. This form of therapy is ideal for those who want to receive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) online, whether you live in Helsinki, the Åboland region, the Åland archipelago, or other Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. Digital psychotherapy can be conducted safely and securely via an encrypted system approved by Valvira.

Internet connection with camera

To participate in online psychotherapy, you’ll need access to video calls in some form—that is, an internet connection with a camera. Most phones today have a camera function and can therefore connect to the platform we use for our online therapy. It’s also a good idea to have a notepad nearby during the session so you can write down things you want to bring up or take notes from the session.

Digital Rehabilitative Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy conducted online can also be used by those seeking rehabilitative psychotherapy covered by Kela (FPA). Kela approves the use of online rehabilitative psychotherapy, and you do not need to visit your therapist’s in-person office to be eligible for FPA-covered therapy. This means that if you live in Ostrobothnia, you can still receive your rehabilitative psychotherapy even though my physical office is located in Mariehamn.

You can read more about rehabilitative psychotherapy here.

Why Choose Online Psychotherapy?

  • Flexibility in terms of time and location

  • No commute—you can have your therapy session from home or during your lunch break at work

  • This is especially well-suited for those who live far from a physical clinic and reside, for example, in the Helsinki region or in the archipelago.

  • The quality of the psychotherapy is the same as in face-to-face therapy at the clinic, but you don't have to worry about travel time.

Who is digital therapy suitable for?

  • Working professionals who don't want to clock out during the workday

  • People who live far from Swedish-language services

  • Parents who would otherwise have difficulty attending their psychotherapy sessions because they need to pick up and drop off their children at daycare, preschool, or school.

  • People with social anxiety or a reluctance to meet in person

  • Individuals who have a payment commitment from their insurance company

  • People in the Helsinki region who have a Palse card and are therefore covered by the HUS healthcare district

  • People who have received a decision from Kela and who wish to receive their rehabilitative psychotherapy in Swedish

  • Online sessions are also a good option for people living in Finnish-speaking areas, such as the Helsinki region, where it can be difficult to find a Swedish-speaking psychotherapist specializing in CBT.
